What can be further from the truth. The average tourist is a simple person who works hard, has a comfortable living and has extra finances to island travel and experience something different from his surroundings. He has the simple human instinct of curiosity of what is it like, "over there".

Tourism in the tropical island has been and still is the major source of income for many small island nations, especially in the pacific. The competition for tourist visitors is so great, resort developers spend countless millions of dollars in enticing island travelers to visit their areas. The resorts of today have island activities and island adventures for visitors that were thought impossible twenty years ago. The history of the pacific island and its transformation into "western culture", began as far back as the 15Th century. Many of the south pacific islands were forced into a political relationship with the powerful European countries of that time.

History of the past - Island Tourist attraction
The only reason that total domination did not happen in the islands was because of the distance and the resources needed to maintain and control an island nation. The pacific islands are scattered throughout thousands of square miles of open ocean and have such differences in customs and cultures, that it would be impossible for any one country to try and control politically. But for some island nations, because of their size and natural resources, were given special attention by their European counterparts. These islands were developed much faster with merchant trading and infrastructure, thus the building of hotels and the beginning of today's travel to paradise island.
However, with the sudden change in the normal way of island life people were experiencing,
they managed to maintain their customs and cultures very well. Today these customs and
